Wonky bowls

Aditya's bowls are terrible. Lopsided, too thick at the bottom, one of them shaped suspiciously like the map of Karnataka. He has been going to a Sunday pottery class in Koramangala for four months and has not improved at all.

His friends have opinions. "Start a page, bro." "Sell them online." "Make a reel, it'll go viral." Everyone wants it to become something: a side hustle, a brand, content.

ಆದಿತ್ಯನ ಬಟ್ಟಲುಗಳು ಸಖತ್ ಕೆಟ್ಟದಾಗಿವೆ. ಒಂದು ಕಡೆ ವಾಲಿರೋದು, ತಳದಲ್ಲಿ ತುಂಬಾ ದಪ್ಪ, ಒಂದಂತೂ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಮ್ಯಾಪ್ ತರಾನೇ ಇದೆ. ನಾಲ್ಕು ತಿಂಗಳಿಂದ ಕೋರಮಂಗಲದ ಸಂಡೇ ಪಾಟರಿ ಕ್ಲಾಸ್‌ಗೆ ಹೋಗ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ, ಒಂಚೂರೂ ಇಂಪ್ರೂವ್ ಆಗಿಲ್ಲ.

ಫ್ರೆಂಡ್ಸ್‌ಗೆ ಅವ್ರದ್ದೇ ಐಡಿಯಾಗಳು. "ಒಂದು ಪೇಜ್ ಶುರು ಮಾಡೋ." "ಆನ್‌ಲೈನ್ ಮಾರು." "ರೀಲ್ ಮಾಡು, ವೈರಲ್ ಆಗುತ್ತೆ." ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಇದು ಏನೋ ಒಂದು ಆಗ್ಬೇಕು: ಸೈಡ್ ಹಸಲ್, ಬ್ರ್ಯಾಂಡ್, ಕಂಟೆಂಟ್.

Not everything is a hustle

But Aditya doesn't want to sell anything. He works six days a week in front of three screens. On Sundays he wants wet clay on his hands, the hum of the wheel, and two hours where nothing he makes has to be good.

He gives the bowls away. Amma keeps kumkuma in one. His roommate uses the Karnataka-shaped one for keys. One cracked in the kiln, and he kept it anyway.

ಎಲ್ಲಾನೂ ಹಸಲ್ ಆಗ್ಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ

ಆದ್ರೆ ಆದಿತ್ಯಂಗೆ ಏನೂ ಮಾರೋ ಆಸೆ ಇಲ್ಲ. ವಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಆರು ದಿನ ಮೂರು ಸ್ಕ್ರೀನ್ ಮುಂದೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡ್ತಾನೆ. ಭಾನುವಾರ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಕೈ ತುಂಬಾ ಹಸಿ ಮಣ್ಣು, ವೀಲ್‌ನ ಗುಂಯ್ ಸದ್ದು, ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿರ್ಲೇಬೇಕು ಅನ್ನೋ ಪ್ರೆಶರ್ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಎರಡು ಗಂಟೆ ಬೇಕು ಅಷ್ಟೇ.

ಬಟ್ಟಲುಗಳನ್ನ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಕೊಟ್ಟುಬಿಡ್ತಾನೆ. ಅಮ್ಮ ಒಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಂಕುಮ ಇಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ರೂಮ್‌ಮೇಟ್ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಶೇಪ್‌ನ ಬಟ್ಟಲಲ್ಲಿ ಕೀ ಇಡ್ತಾನೆ. ಒಂದು ಕಿಲ್ನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿರುಕು ಬಿಡ್ತು, ಆದ್ರೂ ಅದನ್ನ ಇಟ್ಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
