Why our perfumes have Kannada names

Sumi-e brush and Kannada lettering

Walk into any perfume shop and you'll find names in French, Italian, Arabic. Beautiful words, but not ours. Nobody falls in love saying l'heure bleue on a Bengaluru bike ride.

We fall in love in Kannada. We tease, argue, celebrate and remember in Kannada. So our perfumes speak it too.

Named the way we talk

ಈ ಸಂಜೆ Ee Sanje, this evening. ಕಣ್ಣಲ್ಲೇ ಕಥೆ Kannalle Kathe, a story told in the eyes. ಏನ್ ಮಾಯೆ ಇದು? Yen Maaye Idu, what magic is this? ಹಾಗೇ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ Haage Summane, just like that. ಜಬರ್ದಸ್ತ್ Zabardast, spectacular. And ಗಂಧದ ಗಣಿ Gandhada Gani, our Rajyotsava edition, named for the sandalwood Karnataka is known for.

These aren't translations. They're the words you'd actually say in that moment.

Kannada on the label, alone

On the front of every bottle, the name is written only in Kannada, in lettering drawn for that one story. No transliteration, no explanation. If you can read it, it's a little wink from us to you. If you can't yet, it's an invitation.

A story in every bottle

ಪ್ರತಿ ಬಾಟಲಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಒಂದು ಕಥೆ. Every perfume carries a real kathe, told on its page in both Kannada and English. Read them all →
